The author of YT-Spammer-Purge already made this comparison for us

The README puts it in capitals: "IT DOES NOT PREVENT SPAMMERS - It only makes it easier to delete them when they show up!" That is not a criticism of the tool, it is an accurate description of what a tool you run manually can do. You cannot run a script continuously from your laptop and have it catch a scam comment at 3am on a Sunday.

So the question is not which tool is better. It is which problem you have. If your back catalogue has accumulated years of spam and you want it gone, YT-Spammer-Purge is excellent and costs nothing. If scam comments are appearing under your new uploads faster than you can deal with them, no on-demand tool solves that, however good it is.

What the free option actually costs

Free software is free in money. The costs that remain are a Google Cloud project with your own OAuth credentials, a Python environment or a downloaded executable you have to trust, and your time every single time spam needs clearing. For a hobby channel that is a fine trade. For a channel where impersonation comments are costing viewers money, the recurring time cost is the expensive part.

They work fine together

Plenty of creators use a bulk tool once to clear the historical backlog, then run something continuous so the backlog never rebuilds. If you have already cleaned up with YT-Spammer-Purge, you have done the hard part — what remains is keeping it that way.

Choose YT-Spammer-Purge if

  • You want to clean up spam that is already on your channel, as a one-off
  • Your budget is zero and your time is cheaper than a subscription
  • You are comfortable with Python, a terminal and Google Cloud credentials
  • You want full local control and open-source code you can read

Choose RemoveSpam if

  • Scam comments appear faster than you can delete them
  • You need protection running when you are asleep or away
  • Your channel attracts impersonation and crypto scams that target your viewers
  • You would rather not maintain credentials, scripts or a Python environment
